ABC 7 REPORTS:
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was physically blocked by protesters from entering Jefferson Academy in SW, D.C. Friday morning. This was her first visit to a public school.
DeVos turned away and left, ABC7 reporter Sam Sweeney told us. She did eventually get into the school, Sweeney confirmed.
The protesters created a barrier to the entrance of the school, and began shouting.
One protester yelled, “She doesn’t represent anything that they stand for.” Followed by chants, of “shame, shame, shame.”
DeVos left the school around noon.
According to ABC7 reporter Tim Barber, D.C. police arrested an adult male for assaulting an officer outside of Jefferson Academy.
