President Trump will light the White House blue on Monday night, honoring men and women of law enforcement that have been injured or killed in the line of duty.
The President signed the order earlier Monday, proclaiming May 15th to be “Peace Officers Memorial Day” that will mark the start of “Police Week.”
“During Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week, we honor the men and women of law enforcement who have been killed or disabled in the course of serving our communities. Police officers are the thin blue line whose sacrifices protect and serve us every day, and we pledge to support them as they risk their lives to safeguard ours,” said the proclamation.
President Trump held meetings throughout the morning with officials from agencies who lost officers under their command.
The President also urged all 50 governors to fly their state flags at half-staff to honor those in law enforcement that have made the ultimate sacrifice.
“In humble appreciation of our hard-working law enforcement officers, Melania and I will light the White House in blue on May 15,” said the President.
